Stanwood makes a jumbo size metal ball winder that we use everyday in our yarn shop. It's a great size and we have no trouble winding our large 8 oz skeins on it.
The quality of this machine is amazing!! It is built to last and is very heavy duty. We have used the same winder for over two years in our yarn shop and have had no breakage on any parts. And it gets a lot of use!
Yarn capacity is 10oz and it creates a beautiful center pull ball of yarn.

The best ball winder
This is the best ball winder for all types of fabric, all they way up to super bulky yarn. Until then busted Knitpicks winder once and I was using Crafty. Crafty is a good tool but I can't wind anything heavier than worsted weight. Stanwood is an expensive winder but it is really worth every penny. And it is really hard to find. I was lucky to find at CeCe's Wool. Forget all other ball winders. Invest and get this one. You will never look back.

Stanwood Large Ball Winder
It took me a few try’s to get the winder to do a nice ball, but I have it all figured out now. It would have garnered 5 * if the distal yarn loop didn’t loosen up and fly off when I really get going on winding. That little screw isn’t enough to keep the metal from flying off when the wing nut loosens up. I need to write the manufacturer for suggestions. Going slowly and continually tightening the nut helps, but what a pain. Otherwise, it’s a good solid winder that makes an excellent center pull yarn ball.

Awesome Winder!
Winds large skeins of yarn like a dream. I love this winder and wish I purchased it sooner. My old winder could not wind large skeins. Definitely worth the money.
